With S/Y Eleftheria - A floating Kaiki/Caique Museum !
Join us on a cruise that will give you the opportunity to see Santorini through our eyes!
Captain George was raised and educated in Australia and has over 30 years experience in skippering sea craft around the Greek Islands
and is the creator of the sunset cruise in its present form! His passion for the sea and tradition lead him to restore one of the most important boats
that were used for transportation of people and goods between the islands and the mainland for centuries.
It all started back in the early 90’s when he started BBQ cruises
on Santorini and various islands in the Aegean – reminiscent of the Australian weekends of his youth.
As we have found in our over 30 years of professionally sailing in the Aegean sea, most people on holidays would like to spend quality time some by getting involved with the sailing part of the trip, and some, just like to sit back, and enjoy the ride.If you are staying in Santorini overnight then you will be sure to catch the famous west coast sunset, followed by a romantic candlelit dinner overlooking the golden hues of the glistening surface. Very few things in life will leave you feeling more special and privileged.
Santorini is probably one of the most sensational places in this world !! A crater connected to the Aegean Sea that you can sail into, white washed houses and churches on volcanic cliffs that rise up from the sea around you, the Atlantis theory! All this makes this place a source of inspiration to anyone who visits.!
The boat is the S/Y Eleftheria, a 55-foot wooden built traditional Greek Kaiki / Caique -or working boat, which nowadays are open museums and carry memories of a world that is fading right in front of us. We also cater for VIP tours, private charters, sunset cruise and individual itineraries, BBQ trips and full day tours around Santorini and the surrounding Islands
Technological advances in the nautical world have come along in leaps and bounds since the Middle Ages
and yet you still cannot beat the magical experience of sailing through the Mediterranean onboard a traditional Greek Vessel.
Flocks of wooden boats fill the Aegean and the Ionian Sea and these descendants of the Byzantine corvettes are very much a part of day-to-day
life in the Greek islands today, just as they were more than a thousand years ago.
The design is based on crafts sailing
the Aegean Sea for over 2,500 years.
This unique design offers
comfort and space and it’s the perfect sailing structure for the
Aegean which has not been improved upon since the ancient Greeks
mariners first sailed these waters.
With Captain George and Santorini Yachting you will bob along the turquoise waters on board the S/Y Eleftheria.
This beautiful wooden Greek sailboat boasts plenty of space for you and up to 22 of your guests to relax and provides enough shaded areas from the suns scorching rays, with plenty of room for everyone to have the space they need to either sit and enjoy sipping wine or lying back and sunbathing on the top deck.
The S/Y Eleftheria was rebuilt in 2005 with a 15 meter mast, a long keel with permanent flaps that make sailing a joy.
And as a wooden vessel demands, she is annually cared, maintained and improved thus keeping her in shipshape sailing condition
This cruise was designed by us to be the most romantic tour on Santorini.
We depart from the port of Vlychada and make our way to the Red Beach which is the
known to be the best place for swim on the entire island, due to the
crystal clear waters and the amazing scenery.-----A snack a few more
drinks and of to the White Beach for a close pass at the white
porcelain cliffs and the colorful surroundings,
reminiscent of the volcanic explosion in 1650 BC
Afterwards a sail to the center of the
Caldera, the Volcano and the Hot Springs where we will be able to enjoy
the therapeutic effects of a natural sulfur mud bath in the warm waters
which are around 35°C and have a vitalizing effect for the body and
skin !
After all that swimming we light up the BBQ and enjoy a meal
on the boat while cruising in Santorini's Caldera and looking up at the
towns of Oia, Fira and Imerovigli.
The sunset is best viewed at the
south-end of the caldera and close to the Venetian lighthouse as it is
the best place to watch the sun light up the sky with colors and set
into the sea.
